Winner of $1.5M Esurance Giveaway Announced on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

b_250_0_16777215_00_images_obgrabber_2014-02_9684683c83.jpgABC/Randy Holmes (LOS ANGELES) -- The winner of the $1.5 million Esurance giveaway was announced on Wednesday night’s edition of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “John," a 29-year-old newlywed in Northern California, was presented with a large stack of money. His full name and address were not revealed for safety reasons.

During last Sunday’s Super Bowl Post Game program on Fox, Esurance ran an ad featuring The Office actor John Krasinski announcing that the insurance company saved $1.5 million by purchasing commercial time for after the game. Krasinski told viewers Esurance would give away the money they saved to one lucky person who tweets the hashtag #EsuranceSave30, and the winner would be announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.  The contest ended at 4 a.m. Eastern time on Tuesday.

Krasinski joined Kimmel on the late night show Wednesday and watched as Kimmel’s Aunt Chippy and a remote camera crew approached a home in California.  When a man identified as John answered the door, Aunt Chippy announced that he had won the $1.5 million.  John and his wife, who is expecting a baby in less than a month, were understandably shocked when they saw their prize stacked in a neat bundle of cash.

Kimmel revealed Wednesday that the company had received more than three million entries.  Individuals could submit multiple entries, but John’s wife revealed Wednesday night that he had sent just one tweet.
