'Dumb Starbucks' Shuttered by Board of Health
(LOS ANGELES) -- A pop-up shop called Dumb Starbucks that had started turning heads as soon as it opened for business on Saturday in Los Angeles, has been closed by the Board of Health. On the same day that Nathan Fielder, star of the Comedy Central show Nathan for You, revealed himself as the brainchild of the spoof store, authorities in Los Angeles closed the popular attraction down for operating without a permit.
Dumb Starbucks employees had been giving away real coffee and other food while simultaneously throwing some shade at the Seattle-based coffee giant. Nathan for You has the Canadian comic offering "advice" on how to improve businesses, such as creating a poop-flavored frozen yogurt to help a shop drum up sales.
Fielder, dressed as a Starbucks barista, held a press conference Monday in which he took responsibility for the very elaborate gag, explaining he had intended the store would be open until Friday.
He wore a similar outfit in a "Message from the president" he posted on YouTube in which he insisted Dumb Starbucks is a, "real business I intend to get rich from."
