(NEW YORK) -- Just ahead of the holiday shopping season, Amazon has increased the minimum amount customers have to spend in order to qualify for free shipping. In a message on its website Tuesday, the online retail giant said it has upped the minimum to $35. Previously, customers only had to spend $25 to qualify for the company's FREE Super Saver Shipping.
"This is the first time in more than a decade that Amazon has altered the minimum order for free shipping in the U.S.," Amazon said. "During that time, we have expanded free shipping selection by millions of items across all 40 product categories."
The $10 increase could translate into a significant boost for the retailer as customers begin to shop for the holidays.
