Thanksgiving Airfares Will Be Sky High

b_250_0_16777215_00_images_obgrabber_2013-10_f4e8de5e90.jpgiStock/Thinkstock (NEW YORK) -- Get out of that Halloween mindset. It's Thanksgiving you have to concern yourselves with now, particularly if you'll be flying the last week of November. The website FareCompare.com reports that airfares are up again and CEO Rick Seaney says that the best bet for travelers is to try and book a flight early since ticket prices during the week before Thanksgiving are generally 30-to-50 percent lower.

But for many Americans, leaving so far ahead of the holiday just isn't practical.  So if you're stuck flying right around the holiday, Seaney recommends traveling on Thanksgiving Day and getting out of town by Saturday if you want to save money.

Meanwhile, ticket prices are at their highest on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday afterwards.

Another reason to book as soon as possible: non-stops are garnering a much higher premium than they were a couple of weeks ago, so if you want that convenient flight, get online now and book those tickets.
