The awards honor various media for their "fair, accurate and inclusive representations" of the gay, bisexual and transgender community, as well as the issues affecting their lives. John is in the running for the Outstanding Music Artist prize thanks to his latest album, The Diving Board.

Other nominees in the category include releases by Lady Gaga, the alt-rock band Vampire Weekend, British electronic duo Goldfrapp and Canadian indie-pop duo Tegan & Sara.

Lauper, meanwhile, garnered an Outstanding Reality Program nod for her We tv show Cyndi Lauper: Still So Unusual, which will compete against Fuse's Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce, Sundance Channel's Dream School, Lifetime's Project Runway and AMC's Small Town Security.

There will be two GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies: one in Los Angeles on April 12 and one in New York City on May 3.
