According to ScreenDaily.com, the U2 band mates will compose original music for the flick, and reportedly are in discussions to make other as-yet-unannounced contributions to the film.

Sing Street will tell the semi-autobiographical tale of a 14-year-old boy growing up in the 1980s in Dublin, Ireland, who is struggling with an unhappy home life and school bullies.  The lead character, named Cosmo, forms a band and travels to London with his model girlfriend on a quest for rock stardom.

The movie is scheduled to begin shooting this summer in Dublin.

"John Carney has carved out a genre of his own -- beautiful, soulful movies packed with longing, love and music," says Anthony Bregman, the project's co-producer.  "Sing Street is his Cinema Paradiso -- the musical film answer to where it all came from."

Carney is longtime friends with Bono and The Edge, and is a former member of The Frames, the band fronted by Once star Glen Hansard.
