-- U2's Bono and The Edge are set to collaborate with John Carney, writer/director of the award-winning 2007 Irish musical film Once, on new movie titled Sing Street. According to ScreenDaily.com, the U2 band mates will compose original music for the flick, and reportedly are in discussions to make other as-yet-unannounced contributions to the film.
Sing Street will tell the semi-autobiographical tale of a 14-year-old boy growing up in the 1980s in Dublin, Ireland, who is struggling with an unhappy home life and school bullies. The lead character, named Cosmo, forms a band and travels to London with his model girlfriend on a quest for rock stardom.
The movie is scheduled to begin shooting this summer in Dublin.
"John Carney has carved out a genre of his own -- beautiful, soulful movies packed with longing, love and music," says Anthony Bregman, the project's co-producer. "Sing Street is his Cinema Paradiso -- the musical film answer to where it all came from."
Carney is longtime friends with Bono and The Edge, and is a former member of The Frames, the band fronted by Once star Glen Hansard.
