Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle to Perform at Soul-Themed Concert at the White House on Thursday

b_250_0_16777215_00_images_obgrabber_2014-03_bfd8b53dc0.jpgAretha's Records; Courtesy of Patti LaBelle -- Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle are among the stars who will take part in a special concert Thursday night at the White House that will be attended by President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.  The show, which will celebrate female soul singers, will be streamed live at 7:30 p.m. ET on WhiteHouse.gov and PBS.org/WhiteHouse.

The event also will be taped for an upcoming edition of PBS' In Performance at the White House series that will be broadcast on April 7.  Other artists who will perform at the show include Melissa Etheridge, Janelle Monáe, Jill Scott, Ariana Grande and Tessanne ChinGreg Phillinganes will serve as music director.

In addition to the concert, the first lady will host a special daytime workshop for students, which will also be streamed live Thursday.
