John Fogerty to Be Guest Speaker at Son's Graduation Next Month

When the young musician graduates from the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music on May 16, his famous dad, ex-Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty, will be a featured speaker at the event. The ceremony will take place will take place at 10:45 a.m. PT on the south lawn of USC's Ramo Hall.

"I am hugely honored that they asked me to give the commencement speech for the USC Thornton School of Music," says John in a statement.  "When I was young, the idea of a popular music program -- at USC no less -- was unthinkable.  It is so inspiring to see how the students and the University have embraced this important and influential part of our cultural lives."

The school's dean, Robert Cutietta, adds, "We are thrilled to welcome John Fogerty to Thornton to speak to our 2014 graduates.  As a singer, he has an artistic voice that is instantly recognizable to millions of music fans.  As a songwriter, he has written some of the greatest songs in rock and roll."

Shane Fogerty has toured with his father, and also contributed to John's latest album, 2013's Wrote a Song for Everyone.  In addition, he plays with his brother Tyler in the group Hearty Har.
