-- Carole King has been named the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year by the Recording Academy, the folks who bring you the Grammys. She'll be saluted for her musical accomplishments, as well as for her extensive charity work, at a star-studded gala January 24. Songs written by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will be performed at the event by Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Jason Mraz, the Dixie Chicks, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Carole's great friend, James Taylor.
Recording Academy president Neil Portnow said in a statement, "[Carole King's] contributions as a songwriter and performer have truly changed the landscape of pop music, and her philanthropy speaks volumes about her generosity and personal passions."
The gala event will raise money for MusiCares, the Recording Academy foundation that helps musicians in times of need.
