-- When Billy Joel told an audience in Long Island, New York, this past Wednesday that he might see them soon, he apparently wasn't kidding. Rolling Stone has uncovered some possible evidence of an upcoming U.S. arena tour by the Piano Man. As the magazine reports, Songkick, a concert listings website, is showing a January 7 date in Sunrise, Florida. In addition, the publication says that concert promoters Live Nation briefly listed a January 22 date in Jacksonville, Florida, but that it's since been taken down.
Right now, Joel's only official tour dates are a run of shows in England and Ireland later this month and next month. However, he's been speaking an awful lot to the press -- including Rolling Stone -- this year about his concepts for what a future tour might look like, including playing his albums in their entirety, and mixing rarities with classic hits.
Billy hasn't actually toured the U.S. since early 2010, when he and Elton John finished the latest installment of their Face to Face trek. Since then, his only shows in the U.S. have been last December at the 12/12/12 Hurricane Sandy Benefit, this past April at the New Orleans Jazz Fest and Australia's Stone Music Festival, and, as previously reported, this past week at an intimate charity show in Long Island.
