Encounters between California sea lions and people have gotten increasingly violent on the coastal town of Westport. There have been reports of sea lions chasing people and at least one pet killed. Dead sea lions have also been found on beaches with bullet fragments in their skulls.
KOMO News reports Wednesday that the source of the problem is discarded fish left by charter fishing boats at the Westport marina. Those fish, free meals basically, attract the sea lions. Aquarium co-owner Marc Myrsel says the situation needs to be remedied before it gets worse.
