Edith R. Johnson


johnsoner.jpgEdith Rebecca Johnson, 87, McCleary, WA, died on Monday, July 4, 2011 at the Bonaventure Assisted Living Center in Lacey, WA. Edith was born on December 9, 1923 in Mt. Levi, Arkansas to William M. and Rebecca E. (Warren) Leath She met and married John Raymond Johnson in November of 1941 at the age of 17 and moved to Washington.

First and foremost, Edith was a devoted wife and mother of six children, married for 64 years. She worked as a cook and a waitress at the popular Pine’s Café in McCleary and after obtaining her GED, was a cashier for the County.  Edith attended and raised her children in the McCleary Assembly of God Church; she loved the Lord and enjoyed having Bible Study in her home with family and friends. Her hobbies included sewing, embroidery, quilting, crocheting, gardening, cooking and crossword puzzles. She was also an avid reader. When raising her family, the house was filled with all kinds of animals the children enjoyed.

Edith is survived by her son John R. Johnson (Marlene), Olympia; daughters, Alice Nunez (Ray), Lola Bezley, Wanda Eveleth (Don), Sybil Logan (Jerry), all of McCleary and Marty Wilson (Brad) of Shelton. She had 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandchild.

Donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 1280 S. Parker RD, Denver, CO 80231 or the American Cancer Society, Attention; Memorials, 2120 First Ave. N, Seattle, WA 98109. Services will be held at the Evergreen Christian Community Church, 208 W. Pine St, McCleary, WA on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 2:00 pm and burial at McCleary Cemetery to follow. The family was served by McComb Funeral Home.
