Jean J. Petty

pettyjean.jpgJean J. Petty, 89, lifetime resident of Shelton, died peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Mason General Hospital. Jean was born on May 30, 1922 to Arthur and Gladys (Booth) Nelson in Shelton.

She graduated from Irene S. Reed High School in 1940. Jean worked as an oyster opener, for the State Patrol Academy in accident records and then as a correctional officer, retiring from the Washington Correction Center. Jean loved to cook and eat. She had a great sense of humor and loved a great laugh. Her hobbies included bowling, baseball, riding motorcycles, bingo, the Seahawks and Mariners and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved her little dogs, Suzy and Ichiro.

She is survived by her daughters, Melinda Kowel, Hawaii, Carolyn (Jim) Wood, Shelton, Elaine Bacus, Shelton; sons, Glen (Thais) Rau, WA/Brazil, and Gino Rau, Montesano; brother Tom Nelson, Shelton; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by all of her husbands. 

A celebration of life potluck will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Shelton Health and Rehab Center, 153 Johns Court in Shelton from 2 until 3. Memorial donations can be made to the Jean Petty Memorial Fund, c/o 321 SE Cook Plant Farm Rd, Shelton, WA or any Washington State Federal Credit Unions.
