Jefferson “JB” Stroud

stroudjeff.jpgJefferson Boyd “JB” Stroud, 92, of Shelton, WA died on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Fir Lane Health and Rehabilitation Center. JB was born on October 28, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant,  Arkansas to Esmer O. and Mary (Fleetwood) Stroud.

He was drafted into the US Army in 1941, and was stationed in Seattle, where he met Velma Prince. They  married on February 3, 1945, and after the war, spent the next 20 years in Shelton where he was employed by ITT Rayonier Co. and then Simpson Timber Co. In 1966, they relocated to Arkansas where he was employed by McDonnell Douglas Corporation, retiring in 1976. During that time, he served as president of the Union for nearly 5 years. In 1978, the family moved back to Washington State where Jay worked for Certified Manufacturing for a time.

Mr. Stroud’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, coon hunting in Arkansas with his coon dogs, training hunting dogs, gardening, dancing, coaching his son’s baseball games and enjoying John Wayne movies. After the passing of his wife Velma, JB returned to Melbourne, Arkansas, and later married Opal White in 1996. In 2010 he returned to Shelton to be closer to his children.

Survivors include daughters, Jaydee Stroud, Bremerton and Mary Jo (David) Walterick, Belfair, WA; sons, David (Neva) Stroud, Sacramento, CA; and Danny Stroud, Shelton; grandchildren, Tracy (Keith) Cook, Shelton, Jason and Noah Stroud, both of Sacramento, Mason and Taylor Stroud, Shelton, Nathan Walterick, Belfair, Danielle Walterick, Shelton, beloved nephews Kenneth and Harold Stroud, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Velma and brother Rayburn.

Services will be held at The Shelton Presbyterian Church, 1430 E. Shelton Springs Rd. on Saturday, September 17. 2011 at 1:00 pm. The family was served by McComb Funeral Home.
