Ruth E. Broughton

broughtonr.jpgRuth Elenora Broughton, 87, Shelton, WA passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at her home. Ruth was born on July 25, 1924 in Midland County, Kentucky to Albert E. and Mary Jane (Karstens) Short. Ruth was raised in West Seattle and graduated in Seattle. She married Bud Johnson in  1943. He passed away in 1968. In 1970, she married Robert Broughton, passing in January of 2002. years.

Ruth was an artist and a homemaker. She studied art in Seattle and Shelton, paintings shown at the Seattle Center, the Norway Center in Seattle, Thurston County fair, Lacey Mall, St. Peters Hospital, Mason County Fair, Mason General Hospital and numerous places of business in Shelton Ruth was one of the artists who painted the “fourteen stations of the cross” for St. Edward’s Catholic Church here. Her hobbies included painting (oils and watercolor), needlework and volunteering. She enjoyed collecting spoons and was an avid Mariner fan and Jeopardy fan. She was very active at the Mason County Senior Center, Station 7 Sirens, Nifty Thrifty, Mt. Olive Ladies Auxiliary, served on the Mason County Fair Board, and instrumental in the establishment of Shelton Art Club.

She is survived by her son, Rick Johnson, Shelton; sister, Alberta Broughton, Yuma, AZ;  two grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands and two brothers.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Mason County Senior Activities. 826 W. Railroad Ave. Shelton, WA. The family was served by McComb Funeral Home.
