Joy E. Carlson

carlsonjoy.jpgJoy Ellen Carlson, 58, of Shelton, WA passed away peacefully at home with her loving family at her side on Monday, November 28, 2011. Joy was born on June 24, 1953 to Ray and Beverly Porter in Orofino, Idaho. When she was seven years old she moved to Port Angeles and after moving to Shelton, she graduated from Irene S. Reed High School in 1972. It was in high school where she met the love of her life and husband of 39 years, Jack Carlson and they married on December 17, 1972. Joy worked in health care and as a cook for Nita’s Restaurant for many years before going to work at Mason General Hospital as an environmental technician for the last 10 years. Joy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Her hobbies included reading, camping (especially Westport), sewing, knitting, crocheting and artwork. Her main love though was her three daughters and grandchildren. She was a true family woman in every sense of the word and was a “Mom” to many. Joy was kind hearted, very giving, a caregiver and a provider. Known as “Granny” to her grandchildren she will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her husband Jack; mother, Beverly Porter, Pt. Angeles; daughters, Jolene Lecombe, Shelton, Jackie Burnett (Willie), Tumwater, and Ginni Carlson (Rusty Shoemaker) of Olympia; grandchildren, Aleczander and Haylee Dodge, Kaysha Carlson, Demarcus, Jack, and Lincoln Burnett and Amara Simmons; brother, Jim Porter, Alaska and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, brothers Al and Larry Warren and sisters Kathy and Patricia.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to Mason General Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1668, Shelton, WA 98584. McComb Funeral Home was honored to serve this family.
