William H. Phipps

PhippsWilliam.jpgWilliam “Bill” Phipps, 73, Shelton, WA passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Bill was born on January 29, 1938 to John and Losie (Ealy) Phipps in Page, Kentucky. From 1954 to 1959, he served as a sergeant for the US Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. Mr. Phipps married Carole Corder in 1959, she passed away in 1976. He then married Sherryl Exline in Vancouver, WA.

Bill’s working career spanned 40+ years in the floor covering industry. He began with Hollytex Carpet Mills in various capacities from plant maintenance, to plant manager, oversaw the construction and brought to production a new mill in Pennsylvania and eventually moved into whole-sale sales. William traveled extensively in numerous sales manager positions across the US, working for a variety of carpet mills. Throughout his life, family was key. William spent the majority of his life sharing his carpentry, fishing and hunting skill with family members. There was nothing he couldn’t create – from beautiful pieces of furniture to assisting with grandkids with school and hobby projects. The joy of sharing his amazing skills touched all of us.

Survivors include his wife, Sherryl, Shelton; daughter, Kim Remmen, Shelton; sons, John Phipps, Mollala, OR and Michael (Lorie) Phipps, Salem, OR; brother, Claude (Joanna) Phipps, Latexo, TX; half-sisters, Judy Timmons, Everness, FL, Barbara Milke, Mt. Morris, MI and Arlene Mastenbook, Aloha, OR; grandchildren, Josh (Angie) Remmen, Julia (Ryan) Stuart, Leevon Carlson, William Phipps, Stacy Phipps and Austin Phipps; great granddaughters, Page Remmen and Emma Stuart. He was preceded in death by parents, wife Carole and brother Don.

A celebration of his life will be held on his birth date, January 29, 2012 at Little Creek Casino from 1 to 3. The family was served by McComb Funeral Home.
