John D. “Dave” Rayson

raysonjohn.jpgJohn David “Dave” Rayson, 94, Shelton, WA passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Dave was born on September 13, 1917 to John W. and Beatrice (Vesey) Rayson in Centralia, WA. In 1937, he graduated from Irene S. Reed High School and joined the US Navy in November of 1941. Dave was honorably discharged in October of 1945 as Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate. He married Ruby Strikes in Chattsworth, Ill in July of 1977 and was employed by Simpson Plywood division for 27 years, retiring in 1980.

An all around good guy who truly loved his family and friends. He was an award winning gardener and loved being in the woods, hunting, fishing, trapping and cutting wood. He spent a great deal of time with wife Ruby traveling the country with their trailer and camping with friends. He was a devoted Catholic; a member of St. Edward’s Church, the IWA Local 3-38, VFW, and supported many veteran and senior organizations.

He is survived by his nephew, Bill Bailey, California; sister in law, Vi Adams, Lakewood, WA; stepdaughters, Yulanee McKnight, Texas, Cheryl (Rob) Craig, Texas, and Jeanette (Mike) Zimmerman, Illinois; stepson, Mark (Mona) Haberkorn, Illinois and numerous other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2007 and a brother.

Funeral services will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Shelton Memorial Park.
