BerryR.jpgRichard Allen Berry, 79, Shelton, WA passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Richard was born on November 17, 1932 to William and Ruby (Downing) Berry in Portland, OR.  Richard was raised in Ellensburg, WA and joined the 82nd Airborne, was wounded, and was a tank commander at Heartbreak Ridge by his 18th birthday.
He attended Mr. Lee’s Cosmetology School in Tacoma, WA and was a well known cosmetologist in the Olympia area. He owned and operated several salons, including Richard’s Hair Design. Richard worked with his son at Bellus Salon Care in Olympia at the time of his death. He enjoyed his work and the clients that he had, some for over 50 years. His goal was to work until age 80. Richard later became a pilot as well as a flight instructor, and loved flying. He also enjoyed deer and elk hunting, and fishing with his sons. He was an avid reader, liked to play cribbage and loved a good joke. He enjoyed bird watching and recently began to enjoy photography. He dearly loved his two dogs Riley and Sophie.
Richard leaves behind an adoring wife, Dianne, Shelton; sons, Richard Berry, Spanaway, Don Berry, Yelm, Daniel Berry, Olympia and their mother Donna Boatman; stepdaughter, Johnna (Mark) Ziegler; stepsons, Ormond (Lori) Dodge, and Jason (Kim Buffaloe) Dodge, all of Shelton; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren as well as many friends and clients. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1515 Harrison Ave, Olympia, WA on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 at noon. McComb Funeral Home was honored to serve this family.
