Cookjohnr.pngJohn’s obituary, written by John himself

I was born on the 4th day of December 1941 to James and Mary Cook in Everett, Washington. I passed away on February 22, 2012 in Shelton, Washington at the age of 70. I was one month old when we moved to Agate in Shelton from Alderwood Manor, Washington. I am going to be laid to rest at Miller Cemetery, just one mile west of where I grew up.

I worked for Simpson Timber Company for forty years. I also was a volunteer Fire Fighter for twenty-six years, I retired as a Battalion Chief, 504. I really enjoyed the Fire Department.
I was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for nearly twenty eight years and was a bishop for six years. I enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, football, basketball and Ladies Fast Pitch. I was a volunteer cook for the Pioneer Elementary school sixth grade class at Panhandle Lake for twelve years. I have good memories of being Santa Claus for my family and the community events for the past forty-five years. I was involved in scouting for forty-eight years; it was special to me to be a Cub Master for pack 155 and a Scout Master for troop 155. I was an active member of the West Coast Dry Kiln Association, serving two years as President and one year as Vice President.

I married Sally Yeck on November13, 1959. That was the best move I ever made. We were married over 52 years. She was my sweetheart.

Sally and I had six kids, son, John and Dani, daughter, Darla and Jack, son, George, son, Martin and Wendy, daughter, Doreen and Rick, and our little boy Jacob. We also adopted into the family, Susan and Rick Wiley, Donny and Patty Ragsdale, and Jeanie Hirett and her daughter Karen. We have nineteen Grandchildren plus all those Sally and I adopted from the community. We also had thirteen great grandchildren. Surviving is my brother, Jim and his wife Connie Cook and my special brother in law, Leroy Gregerson.

Preceding my death was my mom and dad, Jim and Mary Cook; two sisters, Julie and Mary Ella; four brothers, Alfred, Willard, George and Harry; my adopted father John Hirett, and my adopted sister Susan.

Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Saturday March 3, 2012 at 11:00 am.
