Martha L. “Teal” Lawson

Lawson_Martha.jpgMartha Lucille “Teal” Lawson, 88, of Shelton, WA passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Shelton Health and Rehabilitation Center. Teal was born on December 17, 1923 to John H. and Effie May (Rawley) Slagle in Bativia, Arkansas.
She moved to Missouri at a young age and met and married her husband while he was in the Navy there. They moved to Shelton in 1946 after he obtained work here.
Teal was a homemaker and was a member of the Spring Road Chapel, Church of God in Shelton. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, reupholstering, fabric art, gardening, canning, and her family shared she was a good cook. However, Teal’s real passion in life was playing music. She was a master of the guitar and fiddle. She was always a participant of the Washington Old Time Fiddler’s Association and attended the National Fiddle Competition in Weiser, Idaho for many years and loved the Old Time Fiddler’s Campouts.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Lawson, Shelton; son, Joe “Denny” (Joyce) Lawson; adopted daughter, Joyce Lucky-Valentine, Rochester, WA; sisters, Maxine Crider, Missouri and Mildred Lester, Shelton; six grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband Wendell “Jammer” Lawson and two brothers.
Services will be held at the Spring Road Chapel, Church of God on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at 11:00 am. Donations can be made to the Washington Old Time Fiddler’s Association, 301 E. Wallace Kneeland Blvd, Suite 224-230, Shelton, WA 98584. McComb Funeral Home was honored to serve this family.
