Richard Ernest Kramer

Kramer_Richard.jpgRichard Ernest Kramer, a former resident of Seattle and Harstine Island, near Shelton, Washington, passed away at the age of 98, on September 17, 2012.
Richard (Dick) was born in Seattle June 2, 1914 to Isaac D. and Mathilde (Greager) Kramer.  He was raised on Capitol Hill, in a home that his father had built in 1907.  He went to grade school at Isaac Stevens Elementary and graduated from Broadway High School in 1932.
He married June Irene Davolt, June 6, 1942 and they lived in the same house on Capitol Hill prior to building a home in the Innis Arden area in North Seattle in 1956.
Upon retirement in 1980, Richard and June moved to Harstine Island and spent many winters exploring the Baja of Mexico in their trailer.  Later they became winter residents of Rancho Casa Blanca in Indio, CA.  After June’s passing in 2002, he continued to head south until age 94. 
In 2009 he moved from his residence on Harstine Island to Alpine Way Retirement Apartments in Shelton.  There he met Haldis Burkhart and was married to her Nov. 4, 2010.
He started working for Graystone Concrete Products on Nickerson Street in 1934.  He was employed there for 30 years.  He left Graystone to pursue property development with various partners in the greater Seattle area. 
He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts, the White River Recreation Association, and was a volunteer in the communities in which he lived throughout his life.  He loved his mountain cabin, as well as snow skiing, hunting, fishing, poker club, bridge and golfing.
Survivors include his wife Haldis Kramer, his son Kendall D. Kramer and wife Sandy of Harstine Island and daughter Karolyn K. Bates and husband John of Oak Harbor, Washington.  Grandchildren include Kory Kramer of Longview, Kilynn Kramer of Lincoln City, Oregon, Casey (Brooke) Bates of Redmond, Amy (Matthew) Rose of Marysville, and one great grandchild Sydnee Grace Rose.

There will be a private family service at the Harstine Island Community Cemetery.  A memorial gathering of family and friends will take place at the Harstine Island Community Club on October 6, 2012 at 12:30.
