Mary Ann Coleman

Coleman_MaryAnn.jpgOn Friday, February 1, 2013, Mary Ann Coleman passed away at the Puget Sound Healthcare in Olympia. She was 78. Mary was born on May 24, 1934 to Paul and Freda (Currie) Fredson in Shelton, WA. She graduated from Irene S. Reed High School in 1952 and married her high school sweetheart, Murry Coleman at St. Edward’s Catholic Church on July 11, 1953. Mary Ann and Murry moved to Bellingham after their marriage and Mary worked as a secretary at the campus grade school until Murry earned his degree. While living in Bellingham, Mary Ann had two children. In 1956 they moved to Olympia where the both worked and continued to raise their family. In late 1958 Mary Ann stopped working for the state and became a full time home maker to her family of five. In 1976, Mary Ann was the Pod B secretary at Capital High School until her retirement in 1997. Mary Ann was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church volunteering for the many events and activities that go into the support of a large parish such as St. Michael’s. She was a member of the Altar Society, church groups, Altrusa International Club of Olympia, a bridge club and instrumental in the development of providing scholarships for exchange students. Her hobbies included swimming, traveling, dancing, cooking and gardening. She was an avid reader and a member of many book clubs. Mary Ann was an enthusiastic sport fan of her children, grandchildren and students. Mary Ann especially enjoyed spending time with her seven grandchildren. She is survived by husband, Murry, Olympia; sons, Ken Coleman, Shelton, Dan (Debbie) Coleman and Brian (Tracie) Coleman, both of Olympia; daughters, Teri (Damon) Camus, Olympia and Lisa (Tom) Hopkins, Tumwater; brothers, Ken Fredson and Bill (Dot) Fredson of Shelton; grandchildren, Amanda, Sarah, Kellen, Jared, Heidi, Tim, and Annie; great grandchild, Noah; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Mark Fredson and sister, Frankie Southmayd. Memorial donations can be made to the Altrusa Club of Olympia, P.O.Box 2045, Olympia, WA 98507 or the Shelton Historical Society, P.O. Box 1366, Shelton, WA 98584. Funeral services will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Shelton on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11:00 with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Shelton Memorial Park.
