Michael E. O’Brien

OBrien_Michael.jpgMichael Eugene O’Brien, aka “The Crazy Irishman”, 59, passed away at his home on Thursday evening of February 7, 2013. Michael was born on December 23, 1953 to William E. and Helen M. (Burghduff) O’Brien in Renton, WA. He graduated from Hazen High School in Renton in 1972 and attended Green River Community College. In 1975, he married Kathleen Johnson and they had a son, Kevin Michael O’Brien in 1981.  The marriage ended in 1984. He moved to Shelton in 1993 to be closer to his family and worked in construction and bartended at The Towne Pub. Michael was a team player on pool, dart, and shuffleboard leagues. He was an honorary brother of the Skokomish Indian Tribe. His hobbies included his love of old cars, hot rods, monster trucks, drag racing, reading, karaoke, and music. He was an avid Seahawks fan and he was very proud of his Irish heritage. He enjoyed helping and hanging out with family and friends. He especially loved spending time with his son and grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Kevin (Elizabeth) O’Brien of Covington; brother, Patrick O’Brien, Shelton; sister, Janice Garcia-O’Brien, Federal Way; parents, Bill and Helen O’Brien, Elma; and grandchildren, Emmaline Roberts, Oliver O’Brien and Maelee Watson.

Services will be held at St. Edwards Catholic Church at 601 West C Street at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013. Services will be followed by a celebration of Michael’s life and potluck at The Town Pub at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance at The family was served by McComb Funeral Home.
