Harry “Bud” Clay Hays Jr.
Harry “Bud” Clay Hays Jr., 86, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Alpine Way Retirement Apartments in Shelton. He was born on November 29, 1926 in Touchet, WA to Harry C. and Maude Luella (Myers) Hays Sr.
Bud graduated from Naches High School in 1943 and on September 15, 1946 he married Geraldine Baldwin in Yakima, WA.
From the ages of 10 years old to 17 years old Bud worked in the fruit orchards, fields, fruit warehouses, fruit stands and farms in the Naches, WA area. He was regional sales manager for the Richfield Oil Company from 1946 to the early 1950’s. From the late 1950’s to the early 1960’s he worked for the Bellevue American newspaper and then owned and operated the Lilliwaup Store and Station with his wife from 1964 to 1976.
Bud then worked for the Mason County Sheriff’s Department from the mid 1960’s until 1983 as an under-sheriff and then at the Mason County Jail from 1983 to 1986.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and gardening. Bud also enjoyed the company of young people.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Hays in 1998; parents, Harry and Maude Luella Hays Sr.; sister, Betty Fulkner; and niece, Lynne Erickson.
Bud is survived by his sons, John Clay Hays (Torchy) of Olympia, WA, Michael Charles Hays (Petey) of Riverside, CA, James Richard Hays (Lois) of Shelton, WA; daughter, Janice Faye Massoncini of Lilliwaup, WA; nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Shelton Memorial Park on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm and a memorial gathering will be held at Alpine Way Retirement Apartments on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
