On Saturday December 14, 2013, beginning at approximately 9 AM, the Washington Wing of the Civil Air Patrol will officiate the Washington State Wreaths Across America Ceremony at the Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA, 98042.

Gold Star Mothers (mothers who’s children were killed while serving in our nation’s military), Active Duty Military Personnel, military veterans, and Civil Air Patrol Cadets & Senior Officers will lay wreaths on each memorial representing the US Army, US Air Force, US Navy, US Marines, US Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW/MIA.  After this brief ceremony, all those in attendance will then scatter throughout the cemetery and lay wreaths on the headstones of our fallen heroes.  Veterans organizations from across the state are planning to attend this honored event.

CH (Lt Col) William Adam, Deputy Wing Chaplain of the WA Wing CAP will officiate the ceremony.

BACKGROUND: Since 1992, the Worcester Wreath Company has donated wreaths for gravesites at Arlington National Cemetery. In 2006, through a campaign called Wreaths Across America, they began donating wreaths in tribute to veterans laid to rest at the VA’s 131 national cemeteries and state veterans cemeteries. Since that time, the US Air Force Auxiliary – Civil Air Patrol has coordinated wreath ceremonies around the country. This year there will be over 700 ceremonies commencing all at the same time in each time zone.

2013 will mark the 22th anniversary of Worcester Wreath Company donating Maine wreaths to adorn the headstones of our Nation’s veterans at Arlington National Cemetery. In addition to wreaths destined for Virginia, Worcester Wreath will again donate 7 ceremonial wreaths to over 570 State, National and local cemeteries across the Country INCLUDING the Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington. For a complete list of Washington Cemeteries participating - check HERE.

The goal is to one day see every veterans grave in the country covered to honor every veteran during the holidays. Wreaths are now scheduled to be placed at 14 Washington State locations.

Sponsorships are $15 each. Please note that all sponsorships are sent directly to the location and no wreaths are sent to the individuals purchasing sponsorships.

There is no stipulation for participation in these activities. We welcome all to join us at Wreaths Across America as the organization was formed to promote and coordinate sponsorship of wreaths for the other national, state and local cemeteries that have shown a desire to emulate the Arlington wreath-laying event. If you would like to participate or help bring sponsored wreaths to your local community, please contact us and we will help connect you with other groups already working in your area.
