Smartphone App Aids Young Women in Abusive Relationships
(NEW YORK) -- In a collaborative effort, University of Missouri researchers have developed a smartphone app geared for women ages 18 to 24, who are typically most susceptible to dating violence. Together with Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and the One Love Foundation, the Missouri team has introduced the "One Love My Plan" app designed to help women clarify priorities if they find themselves in an abusive relationship.
Among other things, "One Love My Plan" compares differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships and provides users with behavioral red flags they should watch out for.
Furthermore, the interactive tool connects college-aged women with links to local and national resources to assist in the creation of personal safety plans.
Tina Bloom at Missouri's Sinclair School of Nursing adds, "The purpose of the My Plan app is to quickly and confidentially provide women and concerned friends with information and available resources. Our goal is not to replace existing services, but to better connect students with them."
