Lyme Disease Is More Common Now: What You Should Know
(ATLANTA) -- Lyme disease is about 10 times more common than previously reported, say federal health officials. But that doesn't necessarily mean there is a growing number of cases. "Usually it means that not everyone who should be getting treated is getting treated, but a lot of people who are diagnosed with Lyme disease, they see their doctor; they're put on appropriate medication."
"Their doctor never reports it to their state health department, and their state health department doesn't report it to CDC," says ABC News Chief Health and Medical Editor Dr. Richard Besser.
