Lawmakers in New York City voted Thursday to expand the city's indoor smoking ban to include the devices.  The bill bans individuals from using e-cigarettes in bars, restaurants and workplaces. Many scientists say e-cigarettes are safe because they only heat up a nicotine solution and emit water vapor, but anti-smoking activists say the jury is still out on whether the devices are truly safe.

Peter Denholtz, the owner of a company that markets e-cigarettes, says lawmakers should have delayed a vote until more research could be done. Anti-smoking activists say electronic cigarette use in public places sends the wrong message to kids.
