Yakima Council Opposes Recreational Marijuana
The Yakima City Council is backtracking on plans to allow growing, processing and selling recreational marijuana in the city. Councilwoman Maureen Adkison changed her mind from a previous vote in October, prompting the change in direction.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports she's concerned legalized marijuana will make it easier for young people to acquire the drug, even though the age limit is 21.
Council members approved a motion Tuesday night asking the staff to draft a prohibition. Opponents say it opens Yakima to litigation over conflict with state law.
