ABC's New York affiliate, WABC, reports that the plane was carrying three people when it was forced to land near Exit 13 on the northbound side of the highway in Van Cortlandt Park. There were no fatalities in the landing, and WABC reports that the three people onboard suffered only minor injuries.

Record Low Temperatures Cause School Closures in Midwest

Gov. Mark Dayton made the decision to close all public schools from kindergarten through 12th grade on Friday afternoon, after temperatures were estimated to reach as low as minus 30 degrees and wind chills as low as minus 50 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

At Least 11 Died in Winter Storm That Dumped 2 Feet of Snow on Northeast

The suburbs north of Boston were hit the hardest, with more than two feet of snow overnight, while other parts of the state were slammed with as much as 18 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Fire Destroys Part of Minor League Ballpark in Michigan

The team, associated with the Detroit Tigers, plays at Fifth Third Ballpark Stadium, in Comstock Park, just north of Grand Rapids. According to the Detroit Free Press, no injuries have been reported.

'Lovable and Laid Back' Texas Lawyer Killed in Police Shootout

Michael E. Schmidt, 47, a lawyer at the Schmidt Firm in Dallas, reported to an employee at his building early Thursday morning that his apartment was being burglarized, police said.
