(WASHINGTON) -- American Idol runner-up and former Celebrity Apprentice contestant Clay Aiken is "actively considering" running for a seat in Congress, a Democratic source tells the Washington Blade. The report says Aiken, 35, is considering running for North Carolina's second congressional district seat in the House of Representatives.
The anonymous Democratic source says Aiken, a Raleigh native, has spoken with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and is “actively considering” a run. The source adds Aiken is “sounding and acting like a candidate.”
Another Democratic source told the Blade that Aiken met with polling experts last month in Washington, D.C. The Blade says Aiken and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee haven't commented on the singer's political aspirations. The filing deadline to participate in the North Carolina Democratic primary is Feb. 28. The primary is scheduled for May 6.
Aiken finished second on the 2003 edition of American Idol.
