The Thurston County Planning Commission will hold three public hearings on Wednesday, January 15 starting at 7 p.m. The hearings are on proposed land use plan map changes for the Ken Lake area, the Schader Crown Ranch Long-Term Agriculture reconsideration, and on Comprehensive Plan amendment methods.
Ken Lake Land Use Map Changes
The first public hearing will be on a proposed amendment to change the land use and zoning for approximately 106 acres located in an unincorporated area of the Urban Growth Boundary for the City of Olympia in an area northwest of Ken Lake. The land use and zoning would change from Residential Four Units per Acre TCC 23.04 (R-4) to Residential Low Impact Two to Four Units per Acre TCC 23.04 (RLI-2-4) or other appropriate land use and zoning district.

The second public hearing will be on a proposed amendment to the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan Land Use Map and amend the Official Zoning Map to change the designated land use of 188.5 acres from rural Residential/Resource One Unit per Five Acres (RRR 1/5) to Long-Term Agriculture (LTA). The proposal will also include consideration of the inclusion of text language in the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan for agricultural soil types to Chapter Three, Natural Resource Lands, Agricultural Soil Types.
Comprehensive Plan Amendment Methods
The third public hearing will be on a proposed amendment to remove the language in the Comprehensive Plan referring to the term “quasi-judicial” and amend the associated development code to be consistent with this, and with changes enacted in 2011 to Chapter 2.05 TCC.
