The community is invited to attend a free community education seminar on February 28th from 4pm to 5pm at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma (600 East Main Street). The class, “Heart Disease and Nutrition,” will be led by one of Providence Health System’s leading cardiologist, Dr. Robert Wark, and will feature cooking demonstrations with free heart healthy food from Chef Brandon Smith.
Dr. Wark’s presentation will touch on: who should be concerned about heart disease, what is a heart attack, signs and symptoms, what to do if experiencing or witnessing a heart attack, how lifestyle choices affect your risks, and how to prevent heart disease and heart attack. Dr. Wark will lead a short presentation and then open it up for questions and answers. Chef Smith will discuss a heart healthy diet and share ways to prepare heart healthy food. The audience will be able to sample some of Smith’s heart healthy recipes.
Summit Pacific Medical Center will be hosting similar community education seminars on the fourth Friday of every month from 4pm to 5pm in the Kelsey Conference room. Next month’s topic is “Understanding and Managing Your Pharmaceuticals.” All classes are free and require no registration. All members of the community are encouraged to attend.
