Public Input Sought For Proposed Street Tree Regulations In Lacey

A public hearing is planned for the next regularly scheduled Lacey Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Proposed regulations pertaining to street trees will be discussed and public comment is welcome. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Lacey City Hall, 420 College Street SE. In an effort to clarify standards and inform the public relating to street tree maintenance responsibilities, several options will move forward for the public to weigh in on. Each option presents its own set of advantages and challenges, including issues of responsibility and funding.

The main areas of focus on the proposed regulations are to identify Lacey's Public Works Department as having the authority to make permitting and pruning decisions, and to set standards and procedures relating to public safety, nuisance and enforcement, and maintenance.

A draft of the street tree ordinance language as well as additional background and analysis can be found on the city's website at www.ci.lacey.wa.us. For those unable to attend the hearing, written comments may be mailed to or dropped off at Lacey City Hall, as well as emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots.
