The Mason County Public Works Department would like to notify motorists that the annual restriping on many major County arterial roads and resurfacing of roadways “chip seal” will be in progress during the months of July and August (weather permitting). Most of our County Roads are restriped every year to improve deteriorated night reflective striping. This year, Apply A Line out of Pacific, Washington has been contracted to complete the project.
This year’s chip seal program covers approximately 47 lane miles, which include parts of Belfair, Harstine Island and roads in the east and west areas of the County. The preparatory work on these roads includes, ditching, shoulder grading, brooming and culvert work. We generally start this work in May and finish by the Fourth of July, when the “chip-sealing” begins. The program is usually completed by the end of August, with additional brooming scheduled thereafter.
During chip seal and restriping, delays should be expected. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and not to cross the painted lines. The County Sheriff’s Department will be providing traffic safety during chip seal and restriping.
The County appreciates motorist taking extra care while chip seal and striping are in progress. For a complete list of County roads being chip sealed or restriped please visit the County Web site at www.co.mason.wa.us or call the Public Works Department at (360) 427-9670, Ext. 450.
