The 3rd Annual “MOTHER’S DAY DASH” is set to go! The four mile walk/run will start at the Huff and Puff Trail across from Shelton High School the morning of Mother’s Day – May 11th, 2014. This event is supported and sponsored by many local businesses and organizations and is part if a larger annual fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer research (OC).
Shelby Conklin, a longtime resident of Shelton and two time OC survivor, started this event with her family in 2011 to supplement the Conklin’s commitment to finding a cure for OC by forming TEAM NANNO. “It started with the annual walk/run in Seattle known the ‘Swedish SummeRun’ which raises money for the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research.” Conklin said, “It became an event our entire family and friends supported and became involved in.” The local “Dash” is Team Nanno’s effort to bring awareness to local women about the signs to watch for of OC and all of the proceeds are forwarded to the Rivkin Center. Team Nanno hopes to raise over $5,000.00 this year.
On line signup is available thru May 9th at ACTIVE.COM for $20.00 (kids under 10 are free) and day of race registration is available for $25.00. Sign up starts at the Huff and Puff at 7:30 am and the event will start at 8:30 am. Ribbons and trophies are awarded for the individual age groups.
“Everyone is invited and walkers are encouraged,” Shelby adds.
