All of the laughter and ladybugs at this year's fair are sure to be tons of fun, but it could also add up to tons of trash. That's why the Thurston County Fair and the Thurston County Solid Waste Division are teaming up to invite volunteers to help fairgoers find the right bin for their recyclables and compostable materials, and help keep the trash to a minimum.
Each volunteer will work a three-hour shift during fair week, which runs Wednesday, July 31 through Sunday, August 4. Volunteers will staff recycling and waste stations throughout the fairgrounds and will help fairgoers separate the food scraps, soiled paper, beverage containers, and other compostable materials and recyclables. Each volunteer will receive two free fair admission tickets and a parking pass for the day of their shift. No previous experience or special training is required, and scout groups, church groups, and service organizations are encouraged to invite their members to join in the fair fun and help the environment.
