TUMWATER, Wash. -- Association of the United States Army and the United States Field Artillery Association, both non-profit organizations, are hosting the Thunder Rumble 5K Run with all proceeds going to support soldiers and families in need, Aug. 17. On-site registration will start at 7 a.m. and the race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. The starting point will be at 7845 Center Street SW. The course is scheduled to be closed by 9:30 a.m.
Soldiers with 1st Battalion, 377th Field Artillery Regiment, 17th Fires Brigade, are scheduled to participate as a group, running in formation and wearing approved Army physical training uniforms. 1-377 Field Artillery Battalion is scheduled for deactivation in October. This will be one of the last times the battalion runs as a group. Families and spectators are encouraged to attend the event at no charge. It is an opportunity for the public to interact with soldiers. Registered participants also have the opportunity to run alongside the soldiers. There will be prize give-a-ways, music and finish-line fun for the whole family.
The course is certified, relatively flat, and open to everyone from amateur runners and walkers to the professional racer. Those that wish to run in the event can register HERE.
