State Parks launches Park and Read GeoChallenge
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, Timberland Regional Library and ParksByNature Network® announce today the launch of the Washington State Parks - Park and Read GeoChallenge.
To celebrate Washington State Parks’ 100th birthday, State Parks and ParksByNature Network® have partnered with the Timberland Regional Library to offer a fun program to round out the summer -- the Park and Read GeoChallenge. The GeoChallenge includes state parks and libraries in Lewis, Thurston, Grays Harbor, Pacific and Mason counties. Participants can enjoy a good book while discovering the beauty of Washington state parks. More than $100 worth of prizes will be awarded, including one grand prize. The Park and Read GeoChallenge will run through Sept. 30, 2013.
To get started, participants must download the Official Washington State Parks Pocket Ranger® mobile app onto their mobile device (from either the App Store or Google Play), select the “Challenges” icon, pick the Park and Read Challenge, register a username and password and start your challenge! The entire GeoChallenge is done digitally using the advanced GPS mapping features found on the Washington State Parks Pocket Ranger® mobile app. To keep participants motivated along the way, they can rack up points by recording each visit. Easy-to-reach parks earns participants five points, while more challenging, out-of-the way locales can snag participants up to 20 points. By visiting the online LeaderBoard (www.pocketrangerexchange.com), participants can engage in friendly competition by keeping tabs on other players. They also can track which parks they’ve already visited and which parks they still need to explore as they embark on the Washington State Parks - Park and Read GeoChallenge. Winner selections and prizes: Be one of the first to finish the GeoChallenge and win prizes! More than $100 worth of prizes will be awarded after Sept. 30, 2013. Prizes are provided by ParksByNature Network®.
- First level: The first four participants to record visits to 10 locations will receive $5 iTunes or Google Play Gift Card. Winners may choose which gift card they prefer.
- Second level: The first four participants to record visits to 20 locations will receive $10 iTunes or Google Play Gift Card. Winners may choose which gift card they prefer.
