Two Thurston County Land Use Hearings Oct. 23
Public comment invited on Ken Lake interim regulations, Critical Areas Ordinance amendments. The Thurston Board of County Commissioners will hold two public hearings on Wednesday, October 23 beginning at 6 p.m. The first hearing will be on the renewal of the interim development regulations for the Ken Lake area, and the second hearing will be on proposed amendments to the county’s Critical Areas Ordinance.
Ken Lake interim development regulations
The Board of County Commissioners is accepting public comment on the renewal of Ordinance No. 14443, which established interim development regulations for the unincorporated area in the Olympia Urban Growth Area northwest of Ken Lake. These regulations changed the zoning from Residential Four Units per Acre to Residential Low Impact Two to Four Units per Acre, and adjusted impervious surface standards due to groundwater and flooding concerns in the Ken Lake Basin.
Critical Areas Ordinance amendments
The Board of County Commissioners is accepting public comment on proposed amendments to the county’s updated Critical Areas Ordinance and the recommendations of the Planning Commission. If adopted, the amendments would modify the critical areas regulations for agricultural activities, and amendments to address some issues that arose during the implementation of the new regulations over the last year.
More information on the proposed amendments to the Critical Areas Ordinance, including the full staff report on the Planning Commission recommendations.
Hard copies of reference documents and zoning information are available for the public to review at the county’s Permit Assistance Center on the second floor of Building One at the county courthouse at 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW in Olympia.
