Drivers should plan for an hour of added travel time
HYAK – Drivers traveling across Interstate 90 east of Snoqualmie Pass this weekend need to plan for an hour of added travel time due to closures for tree removal.

Eastbound traffic will be stopped at milepost 56 near Hyak and westbound traffic will be stopped at milepost 70 near Easton.

Two Winters Without Snowshed Means Longer Wait Times For Drivers On I-90 Snoqualmie Pass

HYAK – For the next two winters, drivers traveling over Snoqualmie Pass will experience longer wait times during closures for avalanche control work as contractor crews continue work to widen Interstate 90.

Last spring, the Washington State Department of Transportation and contractor crews removed the 64-year-old snowshed on I- 90 to start construction on two new avalanche bridges. Without a snowshed, clearing snow from I-90 after avalanche control will take longer.

But, the traffic pains are temporary. By winter 2016, both directions of traffic will be traveling on the first of two new bridges. A second bridge will open to traffic in 2018. Until then, drivers are encouraged to plan for additional delays over the next two winters.
