Her body was found by French peacekeeping troops on Tuesday. The African country is wracked with political instability, resulting in widespread violence, internal displacement and sectarian tension.

In a statement Tuesday, French President François Hollande’s office said "Everything will be done to uncover the circumstances of this assassination and to track down who murdered our compatriot."

Before coming to the Central African Republic, Lepage had worked in South Sudan, where she moved in 2012.
