The boat is the first debris from the 2011 Japanese tsunami to reach American shores. According to the Del Norte Triplicate, the boat will leave the San Francisco Bay Areas for Japan by ship on September 16.

The 20-foot boat washed up in Crescent City in April.

The boat belonged to a high school in the Japanese town of Rikuzentakata, the Triplicate says.
