Russian Officials Back Off of Enforcing Anti-Gay Law During Olympics
(MOSCOW) -- Russia said on Sunday that athletes and guests attending next year’s Winter Olympics will not be subject to the country’s new anti-gay law. “The Olympic Games is a major international event. We need to be as polite and tolerant as possible. That is why a decision has been made not to raise this issue during the Olympics,” Igor Ananskikh, deputy chairman of the Physical Culture, Sport and Youth Policy Committee, told Interfax.
