(SOCHI, Russia) --Speed skater Ireen Wust of the Netherlands captured the gold medal at the Winter Games on Sunday in the women’s 3,000 meters. The 27-year-old Wust finished with a time of 4 minutes, 0.34 seconds while defending Olympic champion Martina Salikova of the Czech Republic took home Silver after checking in at 4:01.95.
Olga Graf won Russia’s first medal of the Olympics with a third place finish at 4:03.47. Jilleanne Rookard from Woodhave, Mich., was the highest-finishing American, coming in tenth place at 4:10.02.
