(SAN ANTONIO) -- The defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs hired Becky Hammon as an assistant coach, the club announced on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Hammon is currently playing in her 16th and final season in the WNBA with the San Antonio Silver Stars.
“I very much look forward to the addition of Becky Hammon to our staff,” said Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich in a statement. “Having observed her working with our team this past season, I’m confident her basketball IQ, work ethic and interpersonal skills will be a great benefit to the Spurs.”
Hammon is the first full-time female assistant coach in NBA history.
