(NEW YORK) -- Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol is out indefinitely with an MCL sprain of his left knee, the team announced Saturday. Gasol was injured in the second quarter of the team's loss to the San Antonio Spurs Friday night. Gasol pulled up lame, grabbing his knee, while playing defense under the Spurs' net.
Gasol exited the game and did not return. The NBA's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Gasol had an MRI Saturday that revealed the injury, which won't require surgery.
The 28-year-old Gasol is averaging 16 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game this season. Kosta Koufos, 24, is expected to replace Gasol in the starting lineup.
