The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team advanced to the Class 1B Southwest District 4 Girls Basketball Championship game and earned a spot in the regional round of the State Tournament after dismantling Columbia Adventist 54 to 13 Monday.
The Owls held the Kodiaks to single digit scoring in each quarter: 2 in the 1st; 7 in the 2nd; 3 in the 3rd; and 1 in the 4th. It was a team effort as Jaycee Valley returned from a shoulder injury to lead the girls from Matlock with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Lauren Dierkop added 11 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals. Ashley Kiliz chipped in 9 points and 7 boards. Miranda Sowle scored 7 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, had 5 blocks, 4 steals, and 7 assist. Carlie Adsero had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 blocks. Melodie Snyder added 4 points and 7 rebounds. Mary M. Knight faces Taholah Saturday in the Championship game at Montesano High School at 4 PM. The Chitwhins slipped by Lake Quinault 49 to 47 to advance to yet another District Championship. The championship game between Taholah and Mary M. Knight will be on MASONWEBTV.com.
