Mariners Walk Off With Win

marinersSPEORIA, Ariz. – The Mariners scored four runs in the ninth and tenth innings, including a walk-off single by Ty Kelly that gave the Mariners an 8-7 come-from-behind win over the Chicago Cubs Wednesday night in the Cactus League play at Peoria Stadium. The Mariners made the late comeback with three runs in the ninth inning, loading the bases on a walk by Kelly, a double by Jesus Montero and a walk by Stefen Romero. Following an RBI single to left by James Jones, catcher John Buck tied the game with a two-out, bases loaded single to center.

The Mariners jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on a Robinson Cano RBI double that scored Kyle Seager who had walked and stole second base with one out. After surrendering the tying run in the second inning, Seattle retook the lead with a one-out RBI single by Brad Miller that scored Dustin Ackley.

The Cubs erased a one-run deficit with a four-run sixth inning that was aided by three Mariners errors but Seattle battled back with single run in the bottom half to make it a two-run game at 6-4.

After the Cubs tied the game in the fourth inning, Seattle answered back with a two-out home run to right-center by Miller, who finished the game 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI.

Second baseman Robinson Cano finished the game 2-for-2 with two doubles, an RBI and is now hitting .632 (12x19) this spring.

Starter Randy Wolf struck out three Cubs batters and allowed just two runs, solo home runs to Mike Olt and Javier Baez, before leaving the game with a 3-2 lead.

The Mariners bullpen limited the Cubs to just one hit over the final four frames, getting two shutout innings from Logan Kensing and single shutout frames Tom Wilhelmsen and Lucas Luetge.

The Mariners (12-4-1) return to Cactus League tomorrow with a day game vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick (1:10 pm). The game will be broadcast on a tape delay basis on 710 ESPN Seattle with Rick Rizzs and Dave Sims handling the call. Right-hander Blake Beavan (1-0, 2.25) is scheduled to start for the Mariners vs. Diamondbacks right-hander Archie Bradley (2-0, 0.00).
